I learned that as a teacher I will rely on resources that will be available to me in class or in the school (such as a whiteboard, a projector, visual aids, worksheets and work cards, audio files and a sound system to play it through, dictionaries, course books, resource files, a computer, and online resources). Whiteboards and IWBs are a good way to involve the students in the writing of notes and holds the students’ attention quite effectively. Some advantages of an overhead projector also holds students’ attention, cuts down on time spent writing on the board, overhead transparencies can be kept on file and stored for later reuse. Some disadvantages are that the classroom needs a white space that doesn’t get direct sunlight, it has to be a sufficient size, and it might need to be reorganised to ensure that nothing obstructs the projection path. I learned that visual aids can set the context clearly quickly, can often illustrate the meaning more quickly and effectively than verbal communication, can stimulate discussion and elicit language. Students generally respond eagerly to videos and CD tracks has become the primary audio in class. A class should have a dictionary and they should have some experience with using it.
