This unit addresses the proper use of the four present tenses: present simple, present continuous, present perfect and present perfect continuous. Each section offers positive, negative and interrogatory examples, and the rules for constructing that tense, followed by guidelines for using that tense. Additionally, examples we given of the contractions that might cause confusion for the student, and the examples of possible student errors continue to be helpful as a refresher.
Since the tenses can be used in various ways, it was important for me to clearly understand the differences. Particularly useful was the explanation of the differences between the present perfect and the present perfect continuous tenses. Once again, I realize that being a native English speaker does not translate to being an effective ESL teacher. The material must be very clear me in order for me to impart it successfully to students.
