Lesson 7 covers the purpose of learning vocabulary and grammar. The lesson high lights that while it may be important to stick with the lesson guide adjusting to the needs and level of the students is equally important.
The lesson also lists the goals of each category for the teacher to keep in mind when selecting what topics or words to cover. The lesson outlines not just the ‘how to’ present new information but the goals a teacher may want to achieve. Communicating meaning, use and spelling for vocabulary takes high priority while meaning, use and forms are the focus for grammar structures.
Reading through the sample lesson guides helped put into prospective how to formulate a specific goal in a lesson and then apply an appropriate format based on those goals.
This lesson helped me begin to differentiate between the engage step and the activation step first addressed in lesson 3. Getting the students to begin applying what they already know to formulate a response to the activity engages them in the lesson which is followed by the teacher eliciting them to begin developing beyond that understanding to create something beyond that with new information. Triggering the activation to begin making the connections from the course work and daily use of the language.
