I learned that pronunciation is very important to foreign students and is considered one of the difficult aspects of learning a new language. Phonology is the study, science, analysis, and classification of the physical properties of sounds. Teachers should give time to pronunciation, stress and intonation practice so as to make students aware of the importance of accuracy and clarity of communication. Intonation is the variation in volume and pitch in a whole sentence. Stress is more concerned with individual words. Intonation carries the message in a sentence. There is the rise/fall pattern, the fall/rise pattern, and a basically flat intonation. Nonsense words can be used to convey attitude. You can use gesture, humming and singing to help indicate intonation. Overall, I learned that the way how you speak influences the meaning of what you are saying just as much as the words your using.
