The lesson plan charts the direction of the teaching like a road map. You establish the goal of the day and determine how you are going to achieve that goal. You are able to break the day down into a series of activities aimed at accomplishing the goal. The plan is a record of materials, activities and achievements. You're able to keep track of the things that worked and the things that didn't.
I can see that a challenge to a new teacher would be the time estimates for activities, which is one of many reasons that flexibility is teaching is important. I appreciated learning about the importance of feedback and adapting activities for maximum achievement.
