Productive skills are quite often the most difficult to teach and learn, especially with students that have totally different alphabets, and for whom the pronunciation is complicated since they also are really afraid, shy and self-conscious about making mistakes. Something I have really understood with this unit is that writing shouldn't be relegated to homework and that both speaking and writing are complex but absolutely necessary and must be incorporated as soon as possible in the EAL classroom.
It was particularly helpful to understand how accuracy and fluency can and should be used in different stages of a lesson, and as in the rest of units, the examples and explanations of ideas and activities to present to the kids are so fruitful and worthwhile.
