This unit focuses on how teachers can develop receptive skills like reading and listening in non-native speakers of English. It begins with the motives for developing the receptive skills which include reading for a purpose and reading for entertainment.It then focuses on how readers and listeners employ various specialized skills during reading and writing and how the understanding of context depends on these. It tells us about predictive skills, how to scan, skim, find detailed information and also deuce from context. It gives an overview on how language difficulties may be approached and presents a patchwork lesson plan for developing these skills. The unit is highly effective in teaching of receptive skills.
