In this unit I have realized that English is a ridiculously complicated language to learn if it is not your mother tongue. There are so many rule that have exceptions that it almost boggles the mind. The rules of English grammar are very precise and often confusing, which is why prospective teachers need to be very clear in how they set up these rules for their students. Students can very easily get lost and frustrated if the lesson is not set up well so it is imperative that this particular lesson be very well-planned. For students with a Korean background, for example, definite and indefinite articles may be difficult as they do not have that particular grammar in their native language. Finding exciting ways for the students to learn this lesson is particularly important as it would be very discouraging for the prospective teacher to only lecture on the lesson and the dense and often frustrating material.
