During this unit we have learnt about the different teaching methodologies and techniques. There was an overview of the main methodologies all over history to finally understand how Harmer took the positive aspects of these methodologies (suggestopaedia, communicative learning, audio lingualism, presentation practice and production, etc) to create ESA: Engage, Study and Activate. In this way, on the first stage the aim is to make the students feel comfortable and motivated to learn. We do that using different techniques, like games, music, chatting. On the second stage the students will learn about the construction of the language. It begins with elicitation to then move to the presentation of the teaching point and finally do some exercises to practice what have been learnt. In this stage is when most of the corrections should be made but not in a straight way. We can try to make the student realize himself/herself about the mistake or error or even ask a different student. If none of those work, then the teacher will correct the student. And in the final stage, the activation one, students should be free to use the language as much as they can, and teacher should focus on fluency more than accuracy. Most important thing at this stage is talking. Finally, feedback is always necessary for the teacher as much as for the student, so they can understand how progress in the language learning is going.
