This is the first time I learned about a placement test which I feel is not very appropriate for young learners and beginners. Beginners are as the word goes, beginners. Some of them have no prior language abilities whatsoever and when they are given a 'test', they might feel intimidated from the start especially if they are not able to answer any of the questions. Students need motivation and encouragement to learn effectively. It would be better to have periodical progress tests instead of a placement test.
I would be more in support of a periodical progress test and a year-end assessment test when the students are more comfortable using the new language.
