In this unit, I learned about conditionals and reported speech. There are 5 conditionals, namely, the zero conditional, the first conditional, the second conditional, the third conditional, and the mixed conditional. The zero conditional is used to talk about irrefutable facts. The first conditional is used for possible, real situations. The second conditional is used for unreal, hypothetical present/future situations which are unlikely to be true. The third conditional is used to describe a hypothetical past action and a hypothetical past result which are impossible to have happened. The mixed conditional is used to describe a hypothetical past action and a hypothetical present consequence. Direct speech is what the speaker actually said while reported speech is what the 'listener' is conveying to a third person. When the reporter using a reporting verb in the past such as told, said, etc, the present simple changes to the past simple, the present continuous changes to the past continuous, the present perfect changes to the past perfect, the present perfect continuous changes to the past perfect continuous, the past simple changes to the past perfect, the past continuous changes to the past perfect continuous, will changes to would, while the past perfect and the past perfect continuous remains the same.
