In the sixth unit of our ITTT Training Course, we learned about the different types of Past Tenses that are commonly used in the English language which include past simple tense, past continuous past tense, past perfect past tense, and the past perfect continuous past tense. The first type of past tense is past simple past tense which is made affirmative by adding an –ed or –d to the base of the verb, negative by adding did not or didn’t to the base of the verb, and as a question by adding did plus the subject before the verb base form. The second type of past tense is past continuous tense which is made affirmative by adding the sentence subject + was/were + verb + ing, negative by adding subject + was/were + not verb + ing, and as a question by adding did plus the subject before the verb base form. The third type of past tense is past perfect tense which is made affirmative by adding the sentence subject + had + past participle, negative by adding subject + had + not + past participle, and as a question by adding had + subject + past participle. The fourth and final type of past tense is past perfect continuous tense which is made affirmative by adding the sentence subject + had + been + verb + ing, negative by adding subject + had + not + been + verb + ing, and as a question by adding had + subject + been + verb + ing.
