In the third unit of our ITTT Training Course we learned about the various teaching methodologies to implement while teaching, the "Engage, Study, and Activate" elements, and tips for how to best implement the teaching methods described. The different teaching methodologies include grammar translation which focuses on learning a language through finding parallels in the student's language, audio lingaulism in which long repetition drills and listening activities are used to help the students to learn how to use the language that they have learned properly, presentation and practice in which the students practice using the language that they have learned so far and put it into practice before the teacher moves on to the later stages, task-based learning in which the students are given tasks to complete in English, the silent way in which the teacher says as little as possible in an attempt to help the students to discover the language and language structure for themselves, suggestopaedia in which the teacher tries to make the students feel as relaxed and comfortable as possible, and the Lexical approach which argues that words and phrases are better building blocks then grammatical structure. The second part of the unit discussed the core teaching elements of engage by engaging the students in activities and games to arouse their interest levels, study by having the teacher elicit as much information as possible and then having the students present what they have learned over the course of the lesson, and activate by having the teacher encourage the students to put into practice all of the language that they have learned so far. The third and final section of the unit talked about some games and activities that could be used to help put the concepts of engage, study, and activate into practice such as memory games, alphabet relay, "I Spy", anagrams, Slow Pictionary, and word linking.
