This unit taught me the different skills students have to foster in order to become proficient in reading and listening in English, what to consider when choosing a source to listen to or read, and how a lesson can be crafted around a piece of reading or listening. Reflecting on how to craft a lesson plan around a piece of reading and listening was especially helpful for me. I realize now that in many of the classes I assist with, pre-teaching grammar and vocabulary is one of the main focuses of lessons involving reading. Noticing this has allowed me to reflect on how well the students learn to read with pre-learning as a main focus, and how I could possibly create activities that supplement skills they might be struggling with.
