This unit showed me the complexities behind the receptive skills that I use every day, and it also showed me some very useful ways to teach the different skills. I liked the idea of teaching receptive skills through exposing the students to both authentic and non-authentic materials because it seems that if a student realized they can read a real article from a newspaper, that would boost their confidence exponentially, and using non-authentic materials are useful to teaching targeted words to the students, and can teach them the very useful skill of deducing the meaning of one word from the context of the entire passage.
