In this lesson we have learnt that there two kinds of skills when learning a language: the receptive ones and the productive ones. Listening and reading are receptive skills while speaking and writing are productive.
When teaching receptive skills, we need to keep in mind a few important things in order to make our lesson successful. The material we will work with should interest and motivate the students, and we should build some interest in it as well. We need to consider the vocabulary our students know or don´t know and pre-teach the most complex words. We also need to be careful when choosing the materials to work with, keeping in mind students interests and knowledge. It is recommended to use authentic and non-authentic materials. For the activate phase, it is highly recommended to use games in which students will be able to have some fun while practicing what was just learnt.
In my case, I feel I have been able to learn the importance of receptive and productive skills in language learning and which are the best ways to work with them during the classes.
