As an English major talking a history of the English language class the importance of pronunciation isn't lost on me. The value of fully articulating a word properly is important and phonology gives a neutral means of teaching that skill. Students could learn to stress syllables, emphasize words and overall play with tongue twisters to help master their secondary language. This is one small piece in the giant puzzle that is teaching and a useful tool if the proper pronunciation of a word ever comes into question. These are new language learners and much of this material is rather dry and technical so maybe it would fit into something else that might be more fun and less technical.
