This unit covered the topics of pronunciation and phonology. It included a table of IPA symbols and how they are used in the pronunciation of a particular English accent, meaning that certain sounds do not correlate to many other accents. For example, I can think of at least three different R sounds used in English which are each represented in IPA with their own symbol. While the unit matched various sounds to their groupings - i.e. p and b = plosive, etc - it failed to list the glottal stop. As the IPA used in this unit is different from my own accent, which places a glottal stop on Ts, I am left wondering if the "glottal consonant" is in fact T in this context or not, as speaker of this English accent pronounce their Ts as Ts. This unit provides many good tips on how to teach pronunciation but its information on phonology should be made clearer.
