The unit talks about receptive skills that are reading and listening. It states the two reasons and motives for reading and listening. They are for a purpose and for entertainment. The unit also explains the variety of specialist skills when reading or listening such as predictive skills, scanning, skimming, detailed information and deduction from context. The unit emphasizes the importance of selecting material that interest the students. While it may not be possible to select a material that appeals to all the students, the teacher should strive to select a variety of materials that would interest all of them equally.
