Unit 14 – Coursebooks and lesson materials
Unit 14 with regard to coursebooks provides a general expectation of what one might find or hope for teaching in a classroom. Hopefully you will have some choice in the coursebook used at your place of employment. The reality for most is they will find that choice will have been made already. Based on many factors including budget, knowledge of the coursebook(s), availability, history and opinion of those in charge of making that final decision. Or, it might be you have to use the coursebook provided because the facility already has them. They are considered “good enough” so why buy new coursebooks? Which is why I agree with the four different approaches for course book use - Omit, Replace, Supplement and Adapt to create a balanced lesson.
