Speaking and writing are important to a students growth in English. They are both different but used for the same purpose. We need both to communicate. The teacher needs to create a need or desire for the students to communicate. Activities and games can be used to interact and interest each student. Both accuracy and fluency activities can be used to help with this. Accuracy activity used in the study phase can help produce correct language skills while as fluency activities used in the activate phase allow the students to experiment and be creative. You have to be patient with students that are not willing to speak right away. You should be friendly and smile so they are comfortable with opening up to you. Don't focus on students who don't speak and always give compliments when they do speak and never correct them on everything. You should have activities that have a purpose to speak or write. The students will enjoy it a lot more and will be motivated to speak or write.
