This unit’s subject was course books and lesson materials. It provided information on the following: authentic materials and created materials, the advantages and disadvantages of course books, how to best use course books, four different options for course book use, and how to analyze a course book. I learned that, to make best use of a course book, the teacher should not use the course book for the whole lesson, or for all the lessons, but should try out new activities and explore ways to match the course to the specific needs of the students, supplementing and replacing material when necessary.
