The content of this unit focuses on the role of teachers and learners in the classroom and on how the age of the students and their language ability shape the classroom. In this unit, I learned about the key characteristics of a good teacher and a good learner and the significance of motivation on both the teacher and learner's part. I think the section that I found the most useful was the section describing the various roles teachers take on in the classroom, such as model, facilitator, observer, and organizer, among others. When you are teaching it is easy to forget how much multitasking the job requires. Remembering these different roles I will have to take on in my job, may allow me to to have better balance in the classroom and enable me to create more structured lesson plans. Additionally, it was helpful to learn about the differences between adult learners and young learners, as I am interested in teaching a variety of age levels and acquiring the necessary knowledge and skills to teach to all ages. Finally, learning more about the different levels of language ability and how they are defined will prove useful in gauging my students' levels and helping them to improve.
