It is important for a good teacher to posses a variety of skills but most importantly a personality that that fosters a good relationship between the students and themselves, the teacher. A good teacher is generally knowledgeable, enthusiastic, sensitive, caring and able to switch between dominant and more withdrawn roles within the classroom. There are a multitude of language learners that range from adults all the way down to preschool aged children. These learners will have varied reason for wanting to learn and different levels of knowledge pertaining to the target language which both ultimately affect their motivation to learn. If students lack motivation it might be because of the learning environment or teaching style of the teacher or because of personal factors. Generally a good teacher will build and and encourage students motivation and confidence thus producing good students.
