Ongoing feedback that is clear is a good way to keep students aware of their progress. Tutorials, evaluation by students, and tests are the main ways of conducting more formal evaluation. Most institutions will require some form of testing. Most will use a placement an/or diagnostic test prior to the beginning of the term. During the term, progress tests can administered to check to see if lessons are remembered and understood. Practice tests may be given if the goal of the students is to take an external exam. This exam should match the style and format of the external exam. There are many external exams students may take. Some are for general evaluation and others may focus on one skill.
