I understood that reading and listening are equally important in developing receptive skills and the motives for doing them are divided into two categories: namely, for a purpose and/or for entertainment. In preparing an effective receptive skills lesson, the ESA method is very useful tool. The basic keys to a successful receptive skills lesson are as follows:
-choose interesting materials that will motivate students
-preteach difficult vocabulary
-use varying types of materials to practice different skills
-use comprehension tasks for understanding
-lastly, ask students to write brief account of what lead to the text and let them ask each other.
