This unit illustrates different structures across 7 future tenses which appear in our daily English environment, including future simple, future continuous, future perfect, future perfect continuous, be going + infinitive, present simple, and present continuous.
For me, future tense is arguably one of most complicated tenses to manage as there are so many different tenses and ideas can be used when we would like to mean or express our sentences with future (or going to happen before a specific time) meanings. Therefore, in my personal view, future tense can also be harder for students with beginner or elementary level to navigate.
For examples, if we are saying something based on predictions with no present evidence, we may simply use future simple, e.g. “it will rain this afternoon”. However, if we have present evidence (e.g. with weather forecast), we will say “it is going to rain later this afternoon” instead.
Also, the chapter outlines to the teachers some realistic examples as to different usages in different situations. Furthermore, some students’ common mistakes/errors are also provided, along with some teaching ideas which we can apply them into the contents of the lesson materials and learning activities.
