Unit 3 covered many of the main theories covering learning and teaching English to non-English speakers. The unit looked at the common current teaching theories and their weaknesses, their application in teaching and provided examples of activities to use in the classroom. Great emphasis was placed on ESA (Engage, Study and Activate) as the method of choice for new teachers
The unit covered the three different stages and the type of activities that are appropriate for each stage of the lesson. It also provided different combinations of the ESA method, such as the boomerang and patchwork methods. Over-all, this lesson was very useful for understanding what activities should be used and at what stage during the lesson they would be most effective.
