This unit was about characteristics and roles that are necessary to be a good teacher. Teachers must be familiar with adapting to different situations that require lessons to be more student-centered at times, while being more teacher-centered at other times. It is important that teachers are aware of different roles such as manager, organizer, prompter, etc. and know when which role is appropriate during a lesson. An experience teacher will know how to involve and engage students by effectively using each role correctly
In addition, this unit also talked about what makes a good learner and how important it is for teachers to be aware of general characteristics of students. Factors such as age, learning experience, motivation, culture, and language level can affect how a teacher should approach teaching. Different characteristics can bring different challenges for teachers. It is important to be aware of the characteristics of one's students to better teach them.
