I always found the use of textbooks better than the use of supplemental materials, but I can see that it may be the opposite for English learners. Since learning a language requires a lot of interaction between people, a textbook will not provide the necessary skills students need to succeed. I also learned that a lot of work goes into created materials and I think teachers would need to practice these exercises on themselves before giving them out.
