This unit demonstrates to the teachers the functions and importance of having a well-written lesson plan.
The central idea is that lesson plan can always serve as a clear guide so that teachers can achieve what they want to teach and new knowledge they would like to impart to the students, and most importantly - how (the methods/learning activities) they are going to executive their teaching ideas, and thus accomplish the lesson objectives.
A well-structured lesson plan will definitely facilitate the level of interaction between teachers and students, and enhance the level of participation amongst the students.
In particular, it also showcases to us some of the important factors that we need to incorporate into the lesson plans, such as lesson objectives, personal aims, language point, anticipated problems for the teachers, procedures, phases (e.g. engage, study & activate), and level of interaction between teachers and students, and so on.
From the course materials, I learnt that what the basic principles are when preparing lesson plans. We must always remember that we should not script the lesson, otherwise it will look very unnatural to the students, plus it will reduce a lot of flexibility on our lesson contents.
Lastly, I also came to realize the importance and the ways of conducting self-evaluation form for ourselves so as to monitor the quality of our lessons.
From the evaluation form template, I learnt that the kinds of questions we can ask ourselves to facilitate review process for improvement. They include effectiveness of learning phases, lesson strengths/weaknesses, and accuracy of anticipated problems/solutions.
