I learnt a great deal about the different teaching methods and the history of teaching foreign languages in this unit.
I learnt about the following methods that have been used in the past:
- Grammar-Translation
- Audio-Lingualism
- Presentation, Practice, and Production
- Task-Based Learning
- Communicative Language Teaching
- Community Language Learning
- The silent way
- Suggestopaedia
- The Lexical Approach
While all of these methods can be used based on the teacher's personal preference. The ESA method is the best method for new teachers.
These include Engage, Study, and Activate. It is crucial to use Elicitation when teaching and it is very important to keep teacher talk time to a minimum because you want the students to learn and develop these skills independently.
It is also crucial to remain positive in your feedback while also not over-correcting.
