The content of his unit covered the different forms of the future tense, as well as the specific situations in which each future tense form is used. I learned two main things from this unit. First, I learned several lesson plan ideas and activities that could be used to explain the future tense. This is especially helpful since teaching grammar, especially grammar that is becoming more confusing and complicated, is quite difficult to teach. Having a few ideas for each verb tense has been a very good learning experience in how to teach these concepts in an interactive and varied way. Second, I learned and was able to review the difference between “going-to” and future simple. It was helpful to read about the specific and subtle differences in meaning and I learned how to better explain the difference if students ever ask me this question. For example, future simple can indicate predictions without present evidence, while going-to indicates predictions with evidence. Also, future simple can indicate decisions that are spontaneous, while going-to are for planned decisions.
