I've looked at the main rules of conditionals, direct speech and reported speech from this unit. There are five main conditionals are as follows: zero conditional (it refers to actions and facts that are irrefutable; form is - if/when + present tense, present tense), first conditional (this talks about a 'real' situation in the future that is possible, probable or even certain, once the condition has been satisfied; form is - if + present simple, will), second conditional (communicates a present or future 'unreal', hypothetical situation that is presently not true and is unlikely ever to be true; form is - if + past simple, would/could/might + base form), third conditional (refers to a hypothetical past action (or non-action) and the hypothetical past consequence/result; form is - if + past perfect, would/could/might + have + past participle) and mixed conditional (refers to a hypothetical past action or state, and the hypothetical present consequence; for is - if + past perfect, would + base form). In addition, there are changes in verb tenses, pronouns and time expressions when we turn direct questions into reported (also know as indirect) speech which are were examined in a current unit.
