Unit 20 is about troubleshooting. At the first lesson, some problems probably appear. Some activities that we could do are establish the rapport between the students also between the teacher and the class, find out about the students' needs and aspiration also the English level of each individual class member. We also need to do warmer before start the lesson. Having class with varying levels of the students is also a problem for teachers. Some ways that teacher can do such as using different materials, same material but different task and pair the stronger with the weaker students. There are also some tips for teaching large classes such as use worksheet, pair/group work, group leader, discussion and choose group leaders. Next problem is the use of native language. Teachers can try avoiding this problem by giving clear explanation. Also encourage the use of English where appropriate. Some ideas for reluctant students are using pair work, role play and pair work. Another common problem is difficulty with listening texts. Teachers can help students with selecting the materials, pre-teach difficult vocabulary and make sure that the quality of the tape is good. This unit really help me to provide some ideas to solve some problems in my class.
