This unit stresses the importance of two of the four basic language skills, reading and listening. These are known as the receptive skills. It notes how there are different motivations for either of them whether it be for purpose, for entertainment, or a combination of the two. It also explains skills to overcome problems that can arise with reading and listening such as predictive skills, scanning for specific info, skimming for a jist, and what i found interesting is how they stressed that reading can be somewhat easier for taking information because it is readily available to be consumed multiple times unlike listening where you only hear it once.
