In this unit on Conditionals and Reported Speech,I have learned details about each that I was unaware about growing up as an English native speaker. For example, I learned about the five main conditionals which consist of: Zero Conditional (for generally or always true statements), First Conditional (for likely results of possible future situations), Second Conditional (dreams, fantasies, and hypothetical situations), Third Conditional (for hypothetical past actions and past results), and Mixed Conditional (present results of imaginary past situations). In addition to learning about these different types of conditionals, I also learned about Reported Speech and Direct Speech. I didn't realize that the usage of time expressions is very particular. The idea of backshifting is still something I'm not very used to (for example changing "today" into "that day") but it may be that I also unconsciously use these changes without even realizing it. With teaching this unit to students I learned that it's important to take things slowly so as not to cause any further confusion.
