ESL teachers must be ready to deal with a wide variety of different learning environments. Teaching ESL learners one-on-one, for example, requires that the teacher engage with their learners on a more personal basis, and that they adjust their teaching style to meet the needs of the student (teaching a businessman one-on-one would require different materials than would a doctorate student in linguistics). With one-on-one work, teachers must clearly identify the needs of their students from the beginning so that they can appropriately tailor the course to the students' specific needs.
