This unit focuses on course books and materials. I learned that there can be many advantages to using already published course books, especially for new teachers because it allows for a clear and concise pattern of lessons. However, there are disadvantages to using these course books as they may not be suitable for the learning level and culture of your particular classroom. For new teachers, use of course books can be helpful in organization of lessons and activities but should not be followed exactly and instead adapted to fit what is best for your students. I learned that the key to using course materials successfully, is by making sure you maintain a balance between authentic and created materials as well as remembering to adjust any pre-made materials to fit your students.
