In the unit 1, I have understood what qualities make a good teacher and a good language learner. I have learned about diverse roles that the teacher needs to play in the class and I have identified ones I might find difficult personally: it is especially the monitor role in which the teacher needs to maintain a distance from students, leaving them to their task. Also, I believe that the role of prompter might be difficult to perform, as it requires well developed social skills.
The unit further divides learners based on the age into two categories: young learners and adults. Based on these two categories, differences in learning experience, motivation, nervousness, etc. are drawn. The teacher needs to be aware of how to apporach diverse age category learners.
Last, I have learned about the most common breakdown of language learners into six categories and six levels established by the Council of Europe.
In conclusion, this unit was not saying anything entirely new, but it well organized common knowledge on what is it to be a good teacher, good language learner and how to divide language learners into categories.
