In this unit, I learned about the importance of speaking and writing, as well as some examples of helpful games to utilize during the lessons to evoke student participation. Speaking leaves more room for students to utilize creative language, which can in turn expand their vocabulary and make them more comfortable with speaking in English. When teaching writing skills, spelling is the most important factor when learning a non-phonetic language, such as English, since a lot of the words that we use are spoken differently than they are written. When students are able to distinguish words that sound the same but are spelled differently, it increases their confidence and makes them look knowledgeable about the language. The list of games at the end of the unit are very helpful and I will be using many of them in my classroom!
