This unit talked about the pros and cons of using course books as well as authentic and created material. Course books can have a good syllabus and tried successful plan for education, however they can also be boring, outdated and support lack of creativity in a teacher. They can also be a legitimate way for the students to predict what will be taught in class and students will see on paper a progression of language. If a course book is used it should be added to and omitted by the teacher. Authentic materials are items such as books, magazines, commercials and real world things. Authentic material is more interesting and relatable. Created material are worksheets such as crosswords, gap fill, and word searches. Both created and authentic material should be used to ensure a balanced lesson.
