Between the written unit of chapter eighteen and the video, I've learned that there are two categories of modal verbs (true modal auxiliary verbs and semi-modal auxiliary verbs), as well as eleven total functions. The breakdown of these verbs is more thorough than I expected, and everything that feels like second nature I'm now realizing can be difficult to teach. It's helpful that the main auxiliary verbs were each broken down into their different possibilities--which gives rise to fun game ideas. English is quite flexible and I have to remember to be more aware of that. I also leaned what clauses are (group of words with subject and verb) and that there are multiple types (Independent, Dependent, Relative) as well as sub-types (Defining relative, non-defining relative). Phrasal verbs are possibly the most complex of the sections I've had to learn. It's taken a lot of time, break-downs, and repetitions to get a decent grasp of clearly defining them. But its given me a chance to analyze my self-learning methods and how it can be applied to classroom settings.
