This unit is focused on "Productive Skills: Speaking and Writing".
The unit first introduces the main reasons why people communicate and what a teacher must provide to create a need/desire in students to communicate. Then, the importance of 'accuracy and fluency' as well as the difference between them is explained and a number of speaking activities are provided that are aimed at exercising and enhancing accuracy and fluency. Following that, the unit presents a number of reasons why students may be reluctant to speak in the class and provides techniques to encourage them to interact. Afterwhich, the unit provided a sample ESA Straight Arrow class with the learning objective of free/creative speaking activities followed by guidelines for the teacher before the class and during the activity.
Moreover, the unit then moves on to explaining the components of writing skills; handwriting, spelling, and layout and punctuation. The unit also introduces creative writing accompanied by a sample ESA Straight Arrow class with the learning objective of creative writing.
The units is concluded with a section about 'games in the classroom' clarifying who games are suitable for, what kinds of games there are, the importance of games and their integral role they play in the learning/teaching process. A set of proposed game ideas is provided latter.
