Unit 19 focused on special needs teaching groups which included the teaching of extreme beginners (students who know nothing or very little English prior to attending class), young learners(children/teenagers) and specialised English learning such as business English classes. This unit was interesting as it pointed on how to and not to teach beginners such as not using their native language but to teach all in English to enable students to grasp English as quickly as possible and to also prevent them becoming lazy especially with the younger learners. What was also beneficial was to read that you don't need to have an understanding of business to be able to teach business English by that you are not teaching g people about business but more the type of language needed when speaking to business people such as how to do presentations in English, answer emails, have discussions with business colleagues at conferences or meetings. This unit helped to open my eyes to the possibilities and not to the barriers that came to mind when thinking about teaching these special groups.
