The two productive skills are writing and speaking. The rules for writing English can be especially difficult. It may be different in many ways for non-native English writers. Examples of the differences would be: the alphabet, spacing of the words, and punctuation. In addition to this, English is not a phonetic language. This means that many words may be written the same and pronounced differently or vice versa. The goals when speaking are accuracy and fluency; however, depending on which stage of the lesson you are in, the primary focus would be one or the other. The focus is accuracy in the study stage, but it is fluency in the engage stage.
