This unit has helped me to see the positive points and negative points of some of the teaching methodologies that have been used to develop the ESA method. It is important to encourage the students to use the language as they are learning. Some of the activity options for each of the ESA stages will definitely help with this goal. While it is important to offer correction when necessary, there should be plenty of praise offered when ones do well or improve. It was also interesting that as the teacher, I should be the last one correcting things. First, the goal is for the student to self-correct. Next, the goal would be for another student to correct. I also appreciated the direction that there should be high talk time from the class not from the teacher.
