There is no wrong way to teach, but effective teaching does require structure and engagement. The Engage-Study-Activate model is a good jumping off point that is easily customizable to the teacher’s style and the needs of the learners. When teaching language, it’s important that students use that language; otherwise it is hard to see their progression and help them develop their skills. I foresee the elicitation and prompting of student talking time being a bit difficult in the South Korean educational environment, but I think there are lots of good ideas to start with here. I also think it is extremely important to think about how to correct students. I highly agree with the approach of allowing students the space to correct themselves and culminating an environment that is constructive rather than critical.
