This unit reviews the different types of course materials and the benefits and disadvantages of each. The biggest question lies within the decision to utilize a course book or not. A course book can become predictable and boring to students. If it is available, I think combining a course book with outside material is optimal in order to maintain some structure but allow flexibility and interest by adding current and relatable material. This combines the supplement and adapt methods that the unit discussed. Additionally, created material is good for lower levels and to focus on specific skills or vocabulary, such as creating a crossword puzzle. Authentic material is great for higher levels who can understand the main points.
