This unit discussed the use of conditionals and reported speech. It was a good chance to refresh this information from when I was studying English at the Institute.
Conditionals are usually used to talk about hypothetical or possible situations, except the Zero Conditional, which refers to irrefutable facts. A conditional sentence will always include two clauses: an IF clause, which contains the condition, and a main clause which contains the consequence. Depending on the kind of conditional used, we will be talking about hypothetical situations mainly in the future or in the past. We can use role plays, moral dilemmas, splitting sentences, etc to practice this grammar point.
Reported speech is used to report what someone else said. Since most probably we will be reporting something that was said in the past, it will be necessary to move the verb used in the direct speech one tense back. All the words related to time and place will also need to be back shifted.
